gravure-forteresse-ibrim-nubie-david-roberts
Ancient engraving of the Fortress of Ibrim, Nubia - David Roberts

This reproduction presents a lithography of the fortress of Ibrim, formerly a major strategic point on the Nile. The image depicts a fortified hill dominating the river, animated by the presence of traditional sailing boats. The ruins of walls and towers illustrate the superposition of Egyptian and Roman influences on this rocky promontory.

The plate is taken from the work of David Roberts documenting his explorations of 1838. The artist captures the solitary atmosphere of this Nubian site, highlighting the contrasts between the limestone and the deep blue of the river. This work is part of an approach to visual preservation of ancient monuments.

This iconographic document is particularly suited for a historical or military-spirited decoration. It allows one to observe the organization of an ancient defensive post in the 19th century. Its contemplation offers a temporal journey towards the southern borders of ancient Egypt.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/gravure-forteresse-ibrim-nubie-david-roberts-30x40-cm.jpg?v=1777638358
https://www.berticdesigns.fr/en/products/ancient-engraving-of-the-fortress-of-ibrim-nubia-david-roberts
