The illustration captures the physiognomy of the mammal with precision, detailing the texture of the brown fur and the complex wing structure. The drawing stands out for its ability to reflect the morphological specificities of the animal, offering a clear view combining biological realism and the classical aesthetics of 19th-century scientific engraving.

The plate is from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, a monumental work directed by Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849. This period marks the golden age of French naturalist illustration, where precision of line was essential to the transmission of knowledge. The work bears witness to the fascination of scholars of the era for chiropterans.

Intended for lovers of zoology and ancient iconography, this reproduction constitutes a decorative element that is both sober and erudite. It can be collected alongside other mammal plates or exhibited for its unique documentary interest. This piece invites a careful look at an often misunderstood creature, sublimated here by the art of historical naturalist engraving.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/planche-naturaliste-roussette-edwards-charles-orbigny-40x50-cm.jpg?v=1777639889
https://www.berticdesigns.fr/en/products/ancient-naturalist-plate-of-edwards-s-fig-eating-bat-by-d-orbigny
