The work highlights a pink flower with delicate shades, surrounded by dense green leaves against a plain background. The composition testifies to the mastery of hand-colored lithography, capturing the texture of the bracts and the structure of the inflorescence.

The original was published in 1827 by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, a major figure in 19th-century naturalist illustration. This work aimed to bring together the most aesthetic species for an audience of amateurs and scholars. The Hydrangea, introduced to Europe from Asia, was then a plant of great prestige, particularly appreciated for its opulent flowering and chromatic variations.

This antique illustration lends itself to a collection of naturalist engravings or a documentary study of horticultural heritage. Its scientific rigor combined with its visual softness allows one to appreciate the evolution of botanical taxonomy.
