The drawing focuses on the massive columns with papyriform capitals, partially covered in sand, testifying to the state of the vestiges during 19th-century expeditions. The interplay of light and shadow, rendered in shades of beige and gray, highlights the power of ancient architecture against the surrounding landscape.

Taken from the famous Egypt and Nubia collection by David Roberts, this plate dated 1838 fits into the movement of scientific orientalism. Roberts carefully documented the contrasts between the grandeur of pharaonic structures and local daily life, providing an essential visual archive for emerging Egyptology and the prestige publishing of the Victorian era.

This antique illustration constitutes an ideal subject of study for enthusiasts of classical architecture and historical travel. As an erudite decorative object, it brings a documentary and historical perspective to an interior, inviting contemplation of a vanished civilization through the gaze of an exceptional draftsman.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/illustration-ancienne-ruines-louxor-thebes-david-roberts-30x40-cm.jpg?v=1777638900
