The illustration presents a flower in blue and white hues, accompanied by a butterfly that underscores the naturalist approach of the period. The balanced composition and color fidelity bear witness to the artistic and scientific exactingness of the 19th century.

The original work belongs to the collection Choix des plus belles fleurs, published in 1827. Redouté explores floral diversity there with both an aesthetic and documentary intention. This plate illustrates a specific variety of Iris, whose nomenclature evolved through classifications, reflecting the botanical debates of the time between Iris pallida and Iris Xyphium.

Intended for observers of botanical art and natural history, this antique engraving brings an academic note to any iconographic ensemble.
