The illustration highlights the magenta flowers with tapered petals, the red flower buds, and the characteristic tendrils of the Passifloraceae family. The precision of the line makes it possible to analyze the hierarchy of plant elements, from palmate leaves to reproductive structures.

The original plate was published in 1827 in the collection Choix des plus belles fleurs by Pierre-Joseph Redouté. Native to the surroundings of Rio de Janeiro, this passionflower was introduced to Europe for its singular beauty. Redouté emphasizes here the ornamental aspect of its terminal clusters, often confused at the time with other related species such as Passiflora Princeps.

This naturalist illustration is perfectly suited for the study of plant forms or a thematic presentation on Brazilian flora. It offers a glimpse of the technical know-how of Restoration-era illustrators. Its visual richness makes it a privileged observation medium for lovers of historical botany.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/illustration-botanique-passiflora-racemosa-pierre-joseph-redoute-50x70-cm.jpg?v=1777629431
https://www.berticdesigns.fr/en/products/botanical-illustration-passiflora-racemosa-by-pierre-joseph-redoute
