The delicate white plant silhouette stands out against a deep Prussian blue background, characteristic of the technique. The handwritten inscription Ceylon reinforces the documentary aspect and authenticity of this naturalist plate with its clean lines and sober composition.

Anna Atkins produced these images as part of her botanical research between 1843 and 1853. As the first female photographer, she used cyanotype to accurately archive specimens from distant regions. This work illustrates the convergence between 19th-century geographical explorations and the evolution of scientific image reproduction techniques.

This piece is a fascinating testimony to the beginnings of the photographic herbarium. It is intended to enrich a modern cabinet of curiosities or a scientific wall art collection. Its timeless aesthetic allows one to appreciate the complexity of exotic natural forms through a unique historical and technical lens.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/cyanotype-fougere-ceylan-anna-atkins-29-7x42-cm-A3.jpg?v=1777735118
