The illustration highlights an outrigger canoe equipped with a complex superstructure, bearing witness to the ingenuity of Papuan boatbuilding observed during the passage of the scientific expedition.

The work is part of the collection of publications by Jules Dumont d'Urville following the voyage of the Astrolabe (1826–1829). The surveys carried out by the mission's draughtsmen, such as Edmond Pâris, favor anatomical fidelity of the watercraft, representative of ethnographic studies of the Pacific under the July Monarchy.

This historical document is ideal for collectors of maritime art and the history of exploration. As wall decoration, this plate brings an academic and evocative dimension to the great 19th-century maritime expeditions in Oceania.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/gravure-pirogues-port-dorey-nouvelle-guinee-astrolabe-42x59-4-cm-A2.jpg?v=1777667468
https://www.berticdesigns.fr/en/products/engraving-of-traditional-canoes-from-dorey-harbor-new-guinea
