The illustration highlights the striking red flower accompanied by its green stems and leaves. The drawing is characterized by great rigor in the rendering of textures and an in-depth chromatic study, typical of Redouté's work.

The plate is taken from the work "Choix des plus belles fleurs" of 1827, a leading ornamental botany collection. Pierre-Joseph Redouté expresses his expertise there by capturing specimens from South America introduced into Europe. The scientific intention is coupled with a refined aesthetics specific to the Romantic era.

This naturalist document is aimed at collectors and lovers of ancient flora.
