Artist Kamisaka Sekka used a contrasting color palette including red, blue, black, and yellow against a beige background. Each specimen is rendered with a stylization that highlights the graphic patterns of the wings, characteristic of the Japanese naturalistic aesthetic of the Meiji era.

A master of the Rimpa movement, Kamisaka Sekka designed this collection as a visual encyclopedia of decorative forms. The influence of this current is manifested through the use of bold flat areas and an elegant simplification of lines. This work testifies to the vitality of art publishing in Kyoto, rigorously fusing scientific observation of the living world with the pursuit of plastic beauty.

This antique illustration is ideal for completing a graphic art collection or for studying fauna through the prism of traditional Japanese art. It lends itself particularly well to wall display thanks to the dynamism of its composition. This reproduction brings back the vibrancy of the original pigments used by Sekka over a century ago.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/illustration-sept-papillons-couleurs-kamisaka-sekka-42x59-4-cm-A2.jpg?v=1777737153
https://www.berticdesigns.fr/en/products/illustration-of-seven-multicolored-butterflies-kamisaka-sekka
