Séguy

This reproduction features a naturalist plate grouping five butterfly specimens, including the Lyropterix apollonia and Papilio ulysses-telegonus varieties. The image is characterized by marked contrasts of vibrant blue, brown, and yellow on a structured background. The attention given to the hierarchy of visual elements makes it possible to distinguish the ocellated patterns and delicate veins of each insect.

Published in the 1920s, this work by Émile-Allain Séguy is part of a scientific popularization approach serving the decorative arts. The graphic style, although based on real anatomical observation, leans towards a stylization that foreshadows the Art Deco aesthetic. The artist uses color to energize the composition and offer a formal repertoire to the art industries of the era.

Ideal for documenting a modern cabinet of curiosities or for the study of naturalist graphic design, this quality reproduction allows for a close observation of Séguy's chromatic work. It constitutes an important visual testimony of the fascination for entomological exoticism in the 20th century.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/planche-naturaliste-papillons-lyropterix-papilio-seguy-42x59-4-cm-A2.jpg?v=1777735393
