Taken from Charles d'Orbigny's Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, this scientific composition contrasts the scales and skin textures of these two reptiles. The chromatic work highlights the vividness of the green pigments and the fineness of the scales characteristic of each species.

Published under the direction of Charles d'Orbigny in the 19th century, this work is part of a monumental scientific popularization project. At that time, illustration played a major role in describing the diversity of the living world.
