Séguy

This reproduction presents plate No. 2 from the collection Samarkande, featuring dark cypresses and flowering branches against a grayish-blue background. The composition plays on the verticality of the trees and the delicacy of the purple and white buds punctuating the winding branches. Iconographic analysis reveals a marked hierarchy where the dark masses of the cypresses contrast with the lightness of the lavender blossoms, evoking a stylized nocturnal landscape.

The work of Émile-Allain Séguy here aligns with the Art Deco movement, drawing inspiration from oriental iconography to create modern decorative patterns. Published around 1920, the Samarkande album aimed to reinterpret Central Asian gardens with a Western sensibility. The author's intention was to offer an encyclopedic vision of ornamentation, fusing nature and graphic abstraction.

This antique illustration can be collected for its graphic elegance or used in decoration for its serene atmosphere. Its palette of blues and dark greens makes it a choice piece for a sober and refined interior. It testifies to interwar know-how in landscape composition.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/cypres-nocturnes-sur-fond-bleu-samarkande-motifs-orientaux-par-emile-allain-seguy-42x59-4-cm-A2.jpg?v=1777734871
https://www.berticdesigns.fr/en/products/nocturnal-cypresses-on-blue-background-samarkande-motifs-by-e-a-seguy
