silhouettes-papillons-couleurs-kamisaka-sekka-cho-senshu
Print of colored butterfly silhouettes - Kamisaka Sekka

This reproduction of a plate by Kamisaka Sekka, extracted from the 1903 album Chō senshu, presents seven butterfly silhouettes. The shapes are rendered in colored flat areas without internal details, using a palette composed of blue, green, purple, and gray. The linear arrangement on a neutral beige background highlights the graphic cut-out of each lepidopteran as well as the original calligraphy integrated into the composition.

The style of this plate is characteristic of the Rimpa movement, of which Sekka was one of the last great masters. By simplifying the subject down to the abstraction of the silhouette, the artist emphasizes the structural elegance of nature. This modernist approach to traditional Japanese printmaking aimed to create repertories of forms for creators of textiles, lacquerware, and art objects.

This illustration is aimed at collectors of minimalist Japanese art and naturalistic motifs. It can be integrated into a set of encyclopedic plates or used for its visual sobriety. This archival reproduction allows the rediscovery of the composition and color work of an undisputed master of the Meiji era.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/silhouettes-papillons-couleurs-kamisaka-sekka-cho-senshu-42x59-4-cm-A2.jpg?v=1777737172
