The composition offers a majestic perspective on the temple, highlighting its northern flank and western extremity. Figures, including the governor of the citadel, animate the scene and provide a sense of scale to the architecture, while also bearing witness to life on the site at the beginning of the 19th century.

This plate is taken from the work Views in Greece (1821), based on the drawings of the British scholar Edward Dodwell. His work combines the rigor of the antiquarian with the sensitivity of the artist, seeking to document the state of Greek monuments with scrupulous fidelity. This view of the Parthenon is a precious testimony to the appearance of the site before the major restoration campaigns.

Intended for enthusiasts of Greek architecture, ancient history, and neoclassical art, this print is a choice piece. In terms of decoration, it brings a dimension that is both scholarly and aesthetic, evoking the grandeur of Athenian civilization.
