The artist, Edward Dodwell, composes a balanced scene between an animated foreground, showing agricultural instruments and local figures, and the horizon where the minarets of the city are outlined. The engraving offers a view that is both topographical and ethnographic of early 19th-century Greece.

This plate is extracted from the collection Views in Greece, the result of Edward Dodwell's travels between 1801 and 1806. More than a simple landscape view, it documents daily life and the appearance of a Greek city under Ottoman administration. The work testifies to a meticulous approach, where the pursuit of perfect likeness serves a documentary ambition regarding the state of the locations at a pivotal era.

This vintage print will interest amateurs of historical geography, Ottoman studies, and classical landscapes. It constitutes a subtle decorative element, offering a window onto a vanished world and inviting reflection on the transformations of the Greek urban landscape.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/4730/2989/files/gravure-vue-larissa-thessalie-edward-dodwell-30x40-cm.jpg?v=1790777920
