Elegant Corcopsis (Corcopsis Eleganus) is an engraving that showcases the exotic beauty of this plant with its delicate flowers and lush leaves. Pierre-Joseph Redouté, the famous 18th-century botanical illustrator, demonstrates his talent for depicting the diversity of flora with great precision.
In the publication dated 1827 from which the plate is taken, the detail of this illustration is given as follows:
Read ELEGANT COREOPSIS. COREOPSIS ELEGANS. (Coreopsis tinctoria.) This plant is one of the most beautiful acquisitions that our flowerbeds have made in recent years. It was in 1823 that it was brought from the banks of the Arkansas, a river in North America. Some authors have made it a genus distinct from Coreopsis, and named it Calliopsis bicolor.
