This reproduction presents scientific illustrations of two freshwater turtle species: Lesson's terrapin and the big-headed turtle. The plate details their shells and anatomy, offering a perspective on their skeletal structure and morphology.

Extracted from the encyclopedic work "Erpétologie générale ou Histoire naturelle complète des reptiles" by André-Marie-Constant Duméril (1834-1840), this engraving illustrates the classification of marsh turtles. It bears witness to the meticulousness of 19th-century research and naturalist representations.

This reproduction is intended for turtle enthusiasts, zoology students, and collectors of scientific art. It can bring a touch of natural history and erudition to an office or library, highlighting the importance of comparative species study.
