Reproduction of an engraving by Pierre-Joseph Redouté representing the grape variety known as White Gherkins. Contrary to what the name suggests, this is a pomological study showing a bunch of grapes with elongated and fleshy berries, declining shades of white, pink, and green. The precise line highlights the texture of the fruits and the curve of the vine leaves against a neutral background.
This plate is taken from the collection Choix des plus belles fleurs published in 1827. Redouté documents this variety originating from the Levant, appreciated for its ornamental value and morphological singularity. The work testifies to the author's encyclopedic desire to catalog the finest plant specimens with great visual fidelity.
This print is intended for lovers of botanical curiosities and ancient viticulture. Its timeless style and original subject make it a choice piece to enrich a collection of scientific illustrations or to adorn a space dedicated to the observation of nature and horticultural art.
