This scientific plate reproduction illustrates with great precision the Ringed Siphonops (Siphonops annulatus), a gymnophione amphibian with singular traits. The drawing highlights the segmented structure characteristic of the animal, accompanied by studies of gastropod molluscs, typical of 19th-century observation plates. The composition favors an analytical approach where the clarity of the line and the hierarchy of elements emphasize the complex morphology of the subject.
The original work belongs to the prestigious Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, directed by the naturalist Charles d'Orbigny. This plate testifies to the golden age of scientific illustration, combining taxonomic rigor and graphic elegance. It reflects the encyclopedic ambition of the era, aiming to document the diversity of living things with remarkable visual fidelity and a clear herpetological intent.
Intended for natural science enthusiasts and lovers of natural history, this antique illustration integrates perfectly into a collection of atypical naturalist subjects. Its technical sobriety and organic hues make it a choice piece for an interior decoration that is both scholarly and timeless. It invites the contemplation of ancient fauna through the prism of systematic classification.
