Ancient Ornithological Plate of the Masked Tanager

This naturalist illustration reproduction presents the Masked Tanager, a passerine remarkable for the intensity of its hues. The plate captures with precision the contrasts of the plumage and the characteristic silhouette of the bird, typical of mid-19th-century ornithological studies. The scientific composition highlights the chromatic nuances and the strength of the original graphic line.

Taken from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle directed by Charles d'Orbigny, this engraving testifies to the excellence of French scientific illustration. The work, published between 1841 and 1849, aimed for unprecedented documentary exhaustiveness. Each plate was designed to offer both an artistic and rigorous vision of the animal world, meeting the classification needs of the era.

This ornithological print constitutes a privileged study and decoration object for natural science enthusiasts. As a faithful reproduction, it allows one to appreciate the know-how of historical naturalist illustrators. It integrates harmoniously into a modern cabinet of curiosities or a collection dedicated to birds.
