This reproduction of a botanical plate illustrates the cabbage rose, or Rosa centifolia. The naturalist drawing highlights the complex structure of the pink petals, the serrated foliage, and the morphological details of the stem, scrupulously respecting the codes of classical scholarly illustration.
Originally published in Charles d'Orbigny's Universal Dictionary of Natural History in the mid-19th century, this engraving reflects the period's interest in plant systematics. It combines a rigorous descriptive approach with delicate graphic execution, typical of major French scientific publishing ventures.
Perfect for botany and horticultural art lovers, this antique plate brings a historical and documentary dimension to any collection. Reading it allows one to rediscover the scientific representation of flowers as practiced by naturalists of the last century.
