Antique Botanical Plate: Carnation Begonia by d'Orbigny

This reproduction of a naturalist poster features the carnation begonia, captured in all its floral delicacy. Taken from Charles d'Orbigny's Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, this plate offers a faithful representation of the pale pink flowers and ribbed foliage of the plant. The visual balance between overall views and anatomical cross-sections testifies to the high quality of 19th-century botanical engravings.

The work of d'Orbigny, published between 1841 and 1849, remains a major reference for scientific iconography. Each plate was designed to combine biological truth with graphic harmony. The carnation begonia is treated here with a sensitivity specific to the French naturalist style, where the precision of the line serves an encyclopedic vision of nature, aiming to educate as much as to amaze through the diversity of living things.

Ideal for embellishing a cabinet of curiosities or a classic-accented living room, this antique illustration is aimed at collectors and botany enthusiasts. Its floral theme and careful execution allow for an immersion in the scientific aesthetics of the past. This reproduction preserves the charm of a period study on a quality medium.
