Antique Botanical Plate Chinese Peony by Redouté

This reproduction presents the Chinese Peony (Pæonia), illustrated with great taxonomic rigor. The composition highlights the density of the petals and the complex structure of this emblematic flower. Taken from a naturalist study of 1827, this plate offers a detailed view of the plant, respecting the codes of the classical botanical plate where descriptive clarity takes precedence over pure ornamentation.

The work is extracted from Choix des plus belles fleurs by Pierre-Joseph Redouté. This historical collection aimed to inventory the most remarkable specimens introduced into European gardens. The Chinese Peony, known as the Moutan, is documented here at a time when its cultivation was widely spreading, bearing witness to botanical exchanges between Asia and the West at the beginning of the 19th century.

Intended for collection or ornamentation, this reproduction allows the rediscovery of a milestone in naturalist art. It is perfectly suited for a space dedicated to the study of natural sciences or for a sober and classical decoration. Its documentary interest lies in the faithful restitution of the strength of the line and the original chromatic palette of the master botanist.
