Antique Botanical Plate Elegant Coreopsis by Redouté

This reproduction of a naturalistic illustration depicts the Elegant Coreopsis (Coreopsis tinctoria), also identified at the time as Chrysanthemum carinatum. The plate highlights four flowers with bright yellow petals, marked with a deep red center, symbolizing the beauty of exotic species. The naturalistic drawing favors a precise observation of the thread-like stems and finely cut leaves, offering a clear visual reading of the morphology of this American plant.

Published for the first time in 1827 in the work Choix des plus belles fleurs, this artwork bears witness to 19th-century scientific curiosity for plants brought back from the New World, particularly from the banks of the Arkansas River. Pierre-Joseph Redouté captures here the transition between descriptive botany and decorative art. The period engraving technique, reproduced here, preserves all the elegance of the French naturalistic style of the Restoration period.

This vintage botanical poster is intended for lovers of sophisticated floral decor and botanical history. It can be integrated into a collection of scientific plates or serve as a colorful focal point in a living space. Its documentary value regarding species introduced to Europe in the early 19th century makes it a conversation piece that is as aesthetic as it is intellectual.
