Antique botanical plate of the Caryota Sobolifera palm

This reproduction of a 19th-century botanical plate illustrates Caryota Sobolifera, a singular palm native to Asia. Taken from the collection Palmiers, histoire iconographique, the image highlights the atypical triangular leaflets, whose ends appear jagged or bitten. The precision of P. De Pannemaker's line allows one to observe the bushy posture of the plant and the emergence of its numerous offshoots at the base of the stipe.

Oswald de Kerchove de Denterghem's original work, published in 1878, documents the richness of exotic species with encyclopedic ambition. This study of the Caryota emphasizes the morphological peculiarities that distinguish this genus within the palm family. The naturalist aesthetic of the plate reflects scientific rigor combined with the talent of Belgian botanical illustrators of the era.

This antique illustration is ideal for enriching an iconographic collection or for decorating an interior with a piece of high historical value. It appeals to nature enthusiasts and lovers of botanical art. The reproduction offers a fascinating dive into the universe of rare palms, combining documentary interest and visual pleasure.
