Antique Botanical Plate Variegated Carnation by Redouté

This reproduction represents the Variegated Carnation (Dianthus Caryophyllus), an illustration extracted from a reference work in ornamental botany. The plate details the nuances and characteristic marblings of the petals, typical of varieties obtained through cultivation. The meticulous observation of the floral structure makes it a reference document for understanding the evolution of garden flowers at the beginning of the 19th century.

The drawing is the work of Pierre-Joseph Redouté, published in 1827 as part of his Choix des plus belles fleurs. Through this chromatic study, the author documents the transition between the wild red species of southern Europe and the multiple variegated horticultural varieties. The composition respects the codes of naturalist illustration, where every detail serves the understanding of the plant subject.

This ancient illustration, proposed here in reproduction, is aimed at enthusiasts of horticulture and natural history. Its documentary value and aesthetic quality make it a privileged choice for classic decoration or to complete an iconographic collection. It invites contemplation of horticultural biodiversity as studied in Redouté's time.
