Antique Engraving of the Riesling Grape Variety - Ampelography

This reproduction of a botanical illustration depicts the Riesling grape variety, famous for its greenish-yellow grapes. The plate details meticulously the cluster, the veined leaves, and the orange stem, offering a visual testimony of the morphology of this vine on a pale yellow background. The precision of the hues and line emphasizes the documentary function of the original work, designed for the precise identification of varieties.

The source document comes from Viala and Vermorel's Ampélographie, a major viticultural encyclopedia published at the beginning of the 20th century. The authors collaborated with the best naturalist illustrators to produce this exhaustive inventory. This print reflects the importance given to the transmission of wine-growing knowledge at a time of major restructuring of the European vineyard facing health crises.

This print is ideal for enriching a collection of naturalist images or for decorating an environment related to wine and gastronomy. The clarity of the composition and its vintage aspect bring a note of classic elegance. It is a choice piece for those wishing to combine botanical aesthetics with the memory of French oenological expertise.
