This reproduction of a naturalist engraving features two fish with orange and reddish hues: the red gurnard and the common snapper. The illustration stands out for its dynamic composition and the careful rendering of fins and scales, characteristic of 19th-century academic plates.

The image comes from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle, published under the direction of Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849. This collection is famous for its fidelity to original specimens, serving as a documentary basis for scientists and natural history enthusiasts of the Victorian era.

Sought after for its descriptive clarity, this antique ichthyological plate is aimed at those curious about the marine world. It constitutes a visual testimony to the exploration of aquatic fauna, elegantly blending educational function with the classic naturalist graphic style.
