Antique illustration of the Euterpe Edulis palm

This reproduction of an encyclopedic plate illustrates Euterpe Edulis, an emblematic palm of the tropical forests of eastern Brazil. The image details the crown of pinnate and pectinate fronds emanating from a slender cylindrical trunk. The visual analysis reveals the fineness of the long-acuminate pinnae, rendered with exemplary precision by illustrator P. De Pannemaker for this reference work.

Originally published in 1878 in the work "Palmiers, histoire iconographique" by Oswald de Kerchove de Denterghem, this plate is part of the tradition of major botanical expeditions. It testifies to the effort of classifying South American species at a time when botany was at the heart of natural sciences. The faithful chromatic rendering highlights the robust and majestic aspect of this tropical plant.

Intended for decoration or documentary study, this reproduction allows the rediscovery of the richness of Brazilian flora through the prism of antique illustration. It constitutes a relevant addition to any collection of naturalist wall art, offering a historical perspective on the diversity of palm species recorded in the 19th century.
