This Japanese art reproduction presents a view of Tamonji Temple in Hamahagi, dating from 1934. Hasui Kawase's original composition uses the opening of a doorway as an architectural frame, offering a structured perspective on the sacred buildings and surrounding vegetation.

Characteristic of Kawase's style, this plate plays on color contrasts, notably the red of the structures and the blue of the sky. The work bears witness to the author's interest in the historical sites of rural Japan, treated with documentary precision and great strength of line.

This iconographic piece is ideal for completing a thematic series on traditional Nipponese architecture. It offers a precious visual testimony on the aesthetics of Japanese temples between the wars.
