Antique Mammals Plate: Hairy Armadillo and Pangolin

This reproduction of a naturalist engraving stages two singular mammals: the Hairy Armadillo and the Giant Pangolin. The specimens are represented in a setting evoking their natural environment, with particular attention paid to the textures of their protective shells and scales. The chromatic range of greens, browns, and grays reinforces the authentic and documentary aspect of this period illustration.

The plate is extracted from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle edited by Charles d'Orbigny in the mid-19th century. This work is recognized for having brought together the best artists and scientists to produce iconography of exceptional quality. The work illustrates the era's curiosity for exotic species and unique morphological adaptations within the order of Edentates.

This iconographic document is intended for enthusiasts of zoology and vintage decoration. Its informative character and aesthetic value make it a prime medium for a gallery of mammals or a space dedicated to the history of science. It allows the rediscovery of fauna through the prism of classical encyclopedic illustration.
