Antique naturalist plate of bryozoans, Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction of a naturalist plate highlights the fascinating complexity of bryozoans, colonial organisms represented here with surgical precision against a contrasting black background. The illustration, extracted from the monumental work Kunstformen der Natur, captures the diversity of calcareous structures and delicate branchings of these "moss animals". The balanced composition and shades of grey and yellow underline the organic symmetry characteristic of the author's style.

Created by German biologist and illustrator Ernst Haeckel between 1899 and 1904, this work bears witness to the era's ambition to unite art and science. Through these lithographs, Haeckel sought to reveal the intrinsic beauty of the biological world, exerting a lasting influence on the Art Nouveau movement. Each graphic detail reflects the rigor of early 20th-century scientific observation, transforming a biological study into a major decorative piece.

Intended for natural history enthusiasts, collectors of antique images, or lovers of scientific curiosities, this illustration integrates perfectly into a modern cabinet of curiosities. Its timeless aesthetics and documentary character make it an ideal object for contemplation, bringing both an intellectual and historical dimension to any living space.
