This reproduction of a lithograph shows the colossal head of the Great Sphinx emerging from the sands of the Giza plateau. In the background, the pyramids stand out against the horizon, while small figures of travelers at the foot of the monument emphasize the monumental scale and gigantism of this millenary limestone sculpture.

Documented by David Roberts in 1838, this illustration captures the Giza site in its historical state, prior to modern sand-clearing campaigns. The artist skillfully renders the textures of the eroded rock and the ethereal atmosphere of the desert landscape, characteristic of the romantic and documentary style of the period.

A true icon of Egyptology, this print is ideally suited for collectors of classical views and interiors with an exploratory spirit. It invites a contemplative reflection on the permanence of ancient monuments against the vastness of time and the desert.
