Antique plate of polychaetes by Ernst Haeckel

This reproduction of a naturalist plate highlights the morphological complexity of polychaetes, marine annelids represented here with surgical precision. The graphic composition, typical of Ernst Haeckel's approach, organizes these specimens in a balanced chromatic study, where shades of orange and red contrast with a background of greenish hues. The rendering of parapodia and setae illustrates the fineness of technical stroke specific to 19th-century scientific illustration.

The original work is part of the monumental collection Kunstformen der Natur, published between 1899 and 1904. Through these engravings, the German biologist sought to demonstrate the geometric perfection of nature. His style, which fuses academic rigor with organic aestheticism, profoundly marked Art Nouveau by transforming microscopic observations into fascinating decorative motifs.

Ideal for enriching a thematic collection or character wall decoration, this illustration is intended for enthusiasts of biology and art history. It allows observing biological diversity through a historical prism, offering a visual testimony of the era when deep-sea exploration became a major subject of scientific fascination.
