Antique plate: Scene on the Nile near Wadi Dabod by David Roberts

This reproduction of an antique illustration depicts a panoramic view of the Nile near Wadi Dabod. The scene, with a naturalistic atmosphere, is characterized by crocodiles basking on sandy shores, surrounded by palm trees and distant rock formations. The chromatic palette blending the blue of the water, the brown of the reliefs, and the green of the vegetation offers an authentic vision of the river landscapes of Nubia.

The original drawing is the work of David Roberts, created during his scientific and artistic journey in Egypt in 1838. Through this plate, Roberts sought to restore not only the monuments, but also the wildlife and the natural environment of the Nile Valley. This editorial work played a major role in the geographical and picturesque knowledge of the region in the mid-19th century.

Intended for lovers of travel writing and historical geography, this reproduction constitutes a precious visual testimony on the ecosystem of the ancient Nile. Its balanced composition and animal subject make it an ideal decorative element to evoke major expeditions and the discovery of distant landscapes.
