This reproduction is from a 1934 print by Hasui Kawase, entitled "Snow at Kiba." It depicts a winter landscape where traditional houses border a calm canal where several boats are moored. The use of white and gray emphasizes the density of snow covering roofs and watercraft, offering a rigorous winter chromatic study.

Hasui Kawase marked the history of Japanese art through his atmospheric representations of the seasons. This work is part of his cycle of urban landscapes, capturing a moment of silence in a Tokyo neighborhood through a composition structured by the vertical lines of dwellings and the horizontals of water.

This illustration suits collectors of winter scenes and ancient architectural landscapes. It can be studied for its evocative power and the documentary precision of interwar Japanese buildings.
