Antique Plate: Winter in Kamigamo, Kyoto, 1933 by Hasui Kawase

This Japanese print reproduction accurately illustrates a view of the village of Kamigamo in Kyoto in 1933. The naturalist plate features traditional dwellings nestled at the foot of an imposing mountain, while a river meanders in the foreground. The chromatic composition favors tones of blue and green, enhanced by the yellow and orange hues of trees in seasonal transition.

Stemming from the work of Hasui Kawase, a major figure of the Shin-hanga movement, this print is part of an effort to document Japanese landscapes in the early 20th century. The attention paid to line and light reflects the artist's desire to capture the serene and changing atmosphere of Japan's rural locations, far from the growing urban bustle of the era.

This antique illustration is particularly suitable for lovers of Japanese art and historical geography. Its evocative power makes it a prime piece for a thematic collection or to bring a contemplative dimension to a living space. Its informative character allows for detailed observation of traditional Japanese architectural structures.
