This Japanese print reproduction illustrates the Sakurada Gate captured at dusk. The composition highlights a calm body of water in the foreground, acting as a mirror for the bluish sky. The graphic work emphasizes the dark architectural structures that stand out with precision against the horizon, offering a deep chromatic study on the light transitions of late day.
Originating from the work of Hasui Kawase, a leading figure of the Shin-hanga movement, this plate testifies to the desire to renew traditional ukiyo-e through a realistic treatment of light and atmospheres. The scene is part of a documentary corpus dedicated to Japan's famous landscapes, combining topographical rigor with the contemplative aesthetic of the early 20th century.
This illustration appeals to lovers of nocturnal landscapes and classical Japanese art. Its sober palette dominated by blue and gray makes it a choice piece for interior decoration seeking calm and visual depth, allowing for close observation of historical architectural details.
