Art Deco La Plage de Calvi Plate by Roger Broders

This reproduction of a tourist poster features the Corsican coastline in the late 1920s. The illustration focuses on the beach of Calvi, with a view extending from the golden sand to the citadel dominating the hill in the background. In the center, a female bather in period attire wears a bright orange cape that contrasts with the azure blue of the sea and the clear sky, creating an intense chromatic study.

Drawn in 1928 by Roger Broders on behalf of PLM, this work perfectly illustrates the Art Deco movement applied to seaside tourism. The artist uses flat areas of saturated colors and geometric shapes to stylize the Mediterranean landscape. The composition hierarchizes the planes with great visual efficiency, typical of the advertising intention aimed at promoting Corsica as an elegant resort destination.

This vintage poster is perfectly suited for lovers of tourist cartography and the design of the Roaring Twenties. It can be integrated into a marine or summer-inspired decoration for its luminosity and graphic strength. The contemplation of this piece allows one to appreciate the transition between the classic travel poster and the modern graphic art of the early 20th century.
