This reproduction of a naturalistic plate is dedicated to the brown long-eared bat and the heart-nosed bat. The illustration presents two bats as well as detailed anatomical studies of their heads, all accompanied by precise legends in French. The shades of brown, gray, and yellow faithfully restore the appearance of these flying mammals from the Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle.

The editorial project of Charles d'Orbigny in the 19th century aimed to offer an exhaustive synthesis of the biological world. This bat engraving illustrates this intention through a line of great finesse and a didactic layout, characteristic of the masterpieces of scientific illustration intended for quality popularization for the knowledgeable general public.

Perfect for enriching a natural history collection or decorating a cabinet of curiosities, this vintage plate invites technical and aesthetic observation. It highlights often-overlooked species, transforming them into objects of contemplation and historical knowledge for lovers of natural sciences and antique engravings.
