This reproduction presents a naturalist illustration of a crane by Japanese artist Kōno Bairei. The composition focuses on the bird, depicted standing in water, surrounded by slender reeds. The stroke is precise, capturing with finesse the plumage, elegant posture, and gaze of the animal, against a plain background that highlights the main subject.
Created by Kōno Bairei (1844–1895) during the Meiji era, this work belongs to the tradition of kachō-ga, the art of painting flowers and birds. Bairei is renowned for his ability to fuse traditional Japanese aesthetics with scientific precision. The crane, a symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japan, is treated here with remarkable attention to detail.
This print is aimed at ornithology enthusiasts, collectors of Japanese art, and those seeking wall decoration that is both sober and meaningful. The delicacy of the drawing and the elegance of the subject make it a choice piece for an office or living room.
