Blue and Gold Butterfly Print by Kamisaka Sekka

This Japanese print reproduction illustrates a series of blue butterflies enhanced with golden details, taken from the 1903 work Chō senshu. The composition presents the Lepidoptera arranged in an arc, creating a fluid movement on a beige background. The contrasting use of blue and gold highlights the stylized morphology of the wings, characteristic of Kamisaka Sekka's decorative approach in this scientific and artistic collection.

The original work is part of the Rimpa movement, of which Sekka was one of the last great masters. Through this plate, the artist explores the repetition of naturalist motifs while applying a formal rigor inherited from Japanese traditions. The 1903 editorial intent aimed to catalogue butterfly varieties while creating graphic compositions capable of influencing the industrial and textile design of the era.

This reproduction is ideal for enriching a collection of antique engravings or to complete a sober and elegant interior decoration. The precision of the motifs and the richness of the hues make it a captivating visual study subject. It is aimed at enthusiasts of entomology and Japanese art history seeking to introduce a classic and timeless piece into their environment.
