This reproduction presents a delicate plate from the collection A Thousand Varieties of Butterflies. The illustration consists of several lepidoptera whose wings are drawn in filigree, using soft shades of blue and pink. The fineness of the line highlights the light structure of the insects, distributed in a balanced manner on a natural beige background.

The author, Kamisaka Sekka, published this work in 1903, marking a key step in the renewal of the Rimpa style. This approach favors visual clarity and the synthesis of forms. The artist's intention was to document the diversity of butterflies while respecting the aesthetic requirements specific to modern Japanese prints.

This illustration is perfectly suited for a collection of naturalist plates or sober wall decoration. It allows one to appreciate the meticulousness of the drawing and the subtlety of the chosen colors. It is a precious testimony to the art of Japanese encyclopedic illustration, combining observation and formal elegance.
