Blue and red lined butterfly engraving - Sekka

This reproduction of a Japanese engraving illustrates a flight of butterflies with fine outlines, rendered in shades of blue and red. The silhouettes are arranged lightly against a cream background, focusing on the delicacy of the lines and the economy of graphic means. Each specimen is treated with a precision that highlights the elegance of the winged form in its most sober expression.

The work is extracted from the collection Chō senshu, published in 1903 by Kamisaka Sekka. This work is part of the tradition of the Rimpa movement, where nature is stylized to extract a purely decorative essence. The artist favors a refined approach here, moving away from dense compositions to let the subject breathe on the plate.

This plate is particularly suited for lovers of minimalism and historical graphic design. It allows one to appreciate the mastery of the line characteristic of Meiji-era Japanese prints. As a faithful reproduction, it finds its place in an iconographic study or as a discreet interior decoration element.
