This faithful reproduction features the Purple Mallow, identified as a variety of Althœa rosea with deep purple petals. The illustration highlights the velvety texture of the flowers and the sturdiness of the stems, offering a clear visual reading of this plant native to China, which became a classic in European gardens.
The original work belongs to the collection Choix des plus belles fleurs from 1827, where Pierre-Joseph Redouté listed the most remarkable species for their ornamental interest. The plate combines a subtle chromatic analysis and a dynamic vertical composition, typical of the naturalist style that made the author world-famous.
Ideal for enriching a collection of naturalist images or perfecting a 19th-century-inspired wall decoration, this print appeals for its sobriety and botanical truth. It invites rediscovery of the charm of old gardens through the eyes of an iconographic expert.
