This faithful reproduction represents the Brazilian Dragon Tree (Dracaena brasiliensis), a botanical plate extracted from the famous Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle. The illustration stands out for a clear composition highlighting the dense foliage and plant structures. The strength of the line underlines the specificity of this exotic species in a pure naturalistic style.
Directed by Charles d'Orbigny between 1841 and 1849, the source work constitutes a major reference of 19th-century science. This plate testifies to the encyclopedic desire to record world flora with a sober aesthetic. The shades of green and brown respect the codes of period scientific engravings, combining rigorous observation and artistic quality.
This vintage plate is particularly aimed at enthusiasts of tropical botany and period engravings. It can be integrated into a thematic series or collected for its historical value. Its timeless aspect makes it a privileged object of observation for any lover of scientific heritage.
