This botanical plate illustrates the Calamus Asperrimus, a climbing palm notable for its spiny stems and deep green fronds. This is a careful reproduction taken from the historical monograph by Oswald de Kerchove de Denterghem, published at the end of the 19th century.

The artist P. De Pannemaker captured here the morphological complexity of this species native to Java. The precise line work details the numerous cirri and characteristic spines of the petiole, reflecting the encyclopedic ambition of the original 1878 work dedicated to the diversity of palms.

This naturalist print is perfectly suited to enrich a cabinet of curiosities or vintage-style decor. It allows one to appreciate the richness of ancient horticultural heritage and the graphic mastery of the scientific illustrators of the era.
