This reproduction of an antique botanical illustration depicts two varieties of Iris Xiphium, often called the Spanish iris. The plate reveals the structural complexity of the flower, alternating between deep blue petals mixed with yellow and an entirely golden variant. The iconographic analysis reveals an elegant vertical composition where the narrow, sword-shaped leaves accompany the rise of the stems toward flowerings of great graphic finesse.
The original work, dating from 1827, is signed by Pierre-Joseph Redouté for his prestigious collection Choix des plus belles fleurs. This publishing project aimed to bring together the most remarkable species for their aesthetic interest. The iris, cultivated in Europe since the 17th century, is treated here with the scientific rigor and artistic sensitivity that made the author internationally renowned.
Ideal for lovers of illustrated herbariums, this plate brings a serene and scholarly atmosphere to any interior. It can be integrated into a set of thematic frames or showcased alone for its chromatic brilliance. This reproduction invites visual exploration of natural forms, combining the history of botany with the art of wall decoration.
