This reproduction of an 1878 engraving features the Livistona Hoogendorpii, a tropical Asian palm with reddish petioles. Taken from the collection Palmiers, histoire iconographique, this plate by P. De Pannemaker illustrates the palmate structure of the leaves with great fineness of line.

The editorial context of author Oswald de Kerchove de Denterghem aimed to document major botanical introductions of the mid-19th century. The balanced composition on a white background highlights the elegant bearing of the plant and its defensive attributes, such as its sharp prickles.

This antique print constitutes a valuable visual document for any lover of naturalist decoration. It allows one to rediscover the charm of classic horticultural studies and the richness of tropical biodiversity cataloged over a century ago.
